Wheelchair accessible. A great place for a few moments quiet contemplation, and for some emotive photography.
Steeped in history, the Franciscan Friars have been here for 750 years. The restored abbey is beautiful in its simplicity. The gardens are wonderful and tranquil.
The gorgeous gardens are also just idyllic with the life size whitewashed stations of the cross set among the trees, lawns and bubbling stream. It has a meditation garden too with some lovely art and sculpture.
Gardens were beautifully kept. The church was old with lots of modern stained glass and other touches. Built of a dark stone and clearly a much loved and working church.
We love visiting Lough Lene for a swim on a warm day or for watching the world go by and a walk when it’s not so warm. There is a lovely safe swimming area here.
